Lurie Children’s offers free assistance with applying for Medicaid, healthcare exchange plans or food stamps (SNAP) with Patient Innovation Center (PIC) Navigators. They are available to help you enroll in the health plan that is right for you and your family. These trained, state-licensed professionals can help you understand coverage, answer questions you have and guide you through any issues with your insurance.
You can speak with a PIC Navigator by calling 312.967.9200.
You can also make an appointment to meet with a Navigator at one of the following locations:
For your appointment, you will need the following:
What is the Affordable Care Act?
The Affordable Care Act is a law that requires U.S. citizens or legal residents to obtain health insurance.
How does this law apply to me?
If you do not have health insurance, you will need to find and enroll in a health insurance plan.
Am I eligible?
Yes, if you live in the U.S. and you are a citizen or legal resident of the U.S.
Where can I learn about insurance companies and apply for coverage?
You can visit healthcare.gov to compare insurance plans, apply and enroll for insurance.
What happens if I don't have health insurance?
If you decide not to enroll in a health insurance plan, you will be uninsured. As a result, you will likely pay a fee to the federal government of either $695 per person or 2.5 percent of your total income, whichever is higher. Currently, the fee for children is $347.50 per healthcare.gov 2016 penalty. The maximum fine is $2,085.
This holiday season, your gift will go twice as far for children in our care. Our generous friends at Panda Express will double your impact and match donations to Lurie Children's 2017 Holiday Campaign before December 31 — up to $500,000.
